Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!  I hope your year is off to a fantastic start.  I'd like to THANK YOU you all for an AWESOME 2014.  It was a truly AH-MAZING year filled with wonderful friendships and inspiration.

This year my goal is to create a minimum of three new canvases a month.  Much more than the 23 produced last year.  Are you setting a new goals for the new year?  Whatever you decide to do, do it with all your heart.  Follow your passions in 2015 and above all, stay true to yourself.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new year brings :D

She's a Dreamer

Hi everyone!   I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving.   I took some time off from my studio but I was itching to get back to painting.   I found a beautiful photo on Pinterest that inspired me to create this lovely lady.

In case you haven't noticed, I love gypsies, hippies and all free spirits so they're a favorite subject for me.  I even tell my kids that I was a gypsy in a past life, lol.

The majority of the background is a thin book text wrapping paper along with scraps of patterned papers.  Then as usual, I sketched out my focal image.

She came together nicely.  I kinda wonder if I should have left her color like this.  What do you think? Do you like this better than the darker/colorful hair in the finished piece?

No gypsy would be complete without beautiful jewelry.  So next I added tons of gold trim, bangles and necklaces.

With her done, I added warm tones to the background and beautiful flowers.  I was really loving the piece at this point but I really wanted to add a sentiment.

I found the perfect quote:

She's a Dreamer, a doer, a thinker.  She sees possibility Everywhere and in Everything.

Hope - Dia De Los Muertos Art

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope you all are enjoying a great start to the weekend.  Today I have another Dia De Los Muertos inspired canvas to share with you.

Meet Hope, she's the latest addition to my Dia De Los Muertos art series.

I named her Hope because this is my hope for you:  Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go,  just remember how far you have come.

Hope started out as a sketch in my art journal.

I worked on her whenever I had to sit and wait on my son.  Once I was done, I knew she HAD to go on a canvas.

I made a copy of my sketch to help me transfer my image onto the canvas.  I didn't wanna have to sketch her all over again.

Once I had her transferred I began adding the base colors.

She started out kinda blonde but that changed fast although I'm thinking I should make a blonde haired blue eyed girl for you guys.  Let me know if you'd like to see that ;D.

With her pretty much done, I moved onto the background.  At this point I had no idea what I was gonna do.  Thankfully Pinterest is full of inspiration!  I found a photo of a gypsy that inspired the background.

I added drapes stenciled with tiny flowers subtly blending into the folds.

I have to admit, I'm EXTREMELY happy with the way she turned out.  I think she is absolutely GORGEOUS.

Gypsy

Hello sweet bloggie friends!  Today I thought we'd take a break from the Day of the Dead projects.  In my Dia de Los Muertos excitement I forgot to share a beautiful canvas I created (or maybe I just to keep her all to myself a little longer).  This canvas is simply entitled "Gypsy".

She came together so quickly that I didn't get very many pics of the progress.

If you follow me on FB then you probably saw this pic.  As usual I had no plan and just started slapping paint onto a canvas and set it aside for a few days.

Then I found a photo on Pinterest that really inspired me and I went to work.  Her scarf is actually patterned paper that I cut, glued and then painted over.

Next I searched for the perfect quote!  

I have to say, I really LOVE this one!  She really speaks to me.....

Bendita Mujer, Blessed Woman

Hello, hello!  I'm excited to share my latest canvas with you.  The title of this piece is "Bendita Mujer" which means blessed woman.  The inspiration for the title and sentiment was the cross on her forehead.  So let me rewind things a bit to tell you the story of how she sprang to life.

I created this background in between projects to use up left over paints.  Love the pink against the blue!  So anyway, I had no plan for it.  I was just playing around and it sat to the side waiting for inspiration.

Then during the Peddler's Show, I sketched her out in one of my journals.  I love the way she turned out and knew she NEEDED to go on a canvas, lol.

I thought this background would be perfect so I sketched her out and started painting.

I changed a few things from my original sketch like her mouth.  I wanted her to be happy since she'd lived such a wonderful life.

The words are my own.  I thought of how a women was the heart and soul of her family.  I think my mother might have subconsciously been the inspiration for this piece.  It reads:

"Bendita Mujer, Luz de la famila.

Querida Mujer,

Bendita sea su presencia par siempre.

Querida Mujer"

Translation: Blessed women, light of the family.  Beloved Women.  Blessed be your presence forever, beloved women.
