Dia De Los Muertos Sacred Heart Shrine

Hey there, I hope you are having a fantastic day!  I wanted to share one of the nichos I recently created.  Nichos are small shadow boxes usually made of wood or tin.  They originated as a take on the Roman Catholic retablo tradition of painting saints.   So nichos are little shrines or mixed media assemblage pieces.  I really love working on these little guys and sometimes create my own out of cardboard and found objects.

So back in November during el Dia De Los Muetos, my husband and I did a little shopping in between all the festivals/celebrations downtown and I found these awesome tin nichos.

These are authentic tin shrines from Mexico.  I knew right away that they were PERFECT for my art.

I bought them all and then they sat in stash til recently.  I finally got around to working on them and I'm loving these little treasures.

The outside is painted and then I drew the flowers.  Next I added bling and the inside features a copy of my original canvas entitled Bendita Mujer.

I've created two more that I'll be sharing soon.  Thanks so much for stopping by, letting me know if you have any questions about my process or the products I used.

Take Care!!

Hi everyone!!  I'm so glad you've joined us today for our celebration.  This anniversary is extra special for me because it also marks the launch of Little Honey Bee Studios.  I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Carrie and her wonderful stamps at that time.  Today I'm blessed to call her my friend and grateful to witness the growth of her business.  Now you've probably  notice the those awesome stamps up above right.  I'm GIVING them away to one lucky follower along with a Little Honey Bee Studios something, something.  I'll announce the winner here on Tuesday, March 11th and all you have to do to be eligible is comment.  Okay, time for my project!!

I'm ready to "CELEBRATE" Easter!!  I altered this cute little chipboard bunny to display during the Easter season.

I used the 6x6 Prima Delight Paper Pad and just outlined my bunny.  I cut it out and glued it on, easy peasy.

Here he is all ready for stamping!

I used the Happy Day and Frida Por Vida clear stamp sets.  I stamped the flowers and streamers directly onto the bunny then colored them with my Prismas.  I added pearl beads to the centers of each flower.  Happy and the little bird are both stamped on the Prima paper then fussy cut.  I added shadows with Prismas and sparkle with Stickles.  The ribbons, flowers and bling are all from my stash.

Alright, it's time to send you off to your next stop so head on over to Amber's Blog!!

Hello, hello!  I hope you all are doing fabulous today.  I'm so glad you've joined us for our RED themed hop.  Red is such a beautiful and powerful color don't you think.  It can convey love, passion and spark energy.  It has the power to influence your mood for example a kitchen/dinning room painted RED will make you feel happy and encourages a healthy appetite.  RED in a living room or office will keep you energized while RED in a bedroom will make it hard to unwind.  RED has always been one of my favorite colors but I've started to mellow out in my old age, lol and now I lean toward the calm of blues.  It's funny how color preferences change as we mature.   Any who, today I'm using RED to create a romantic mood.

I recycled a scrap piece of 4x4 and a wooden dowel.  I predrilled holes into the wood then inserted the dowel.  I used the Husky heavy duty scissors to cut the dowels.

I glued glitter to the top of the wood and outlined the edges with beaded trim.  I used the NEW Vintage Melange set (Psst...it's on sale this month) and the Flourish Elements set.  Small wooden dowels are holding up each of the elements.

This lovely lady is on the NEW Vintage Melange set (Psst...don't forget, it's on sale this month).  I used Prismacolor pencils and Stickles to color her.  The frame is from my stash.  It was white but I painted it black then distressed it by wiping it with a baby wipe.

To cover up the wood, I added crepe paper then layered vintage trim and black sequence trim.  The sentiment is stamped onto canvas.  You can find it on the Valentine Wishes stamp set

That's it, pretty easy right?!  Before I let you go, I wanna tell you about the PWP February Challenge.  This month we're having an Anything Goes Challenge.  The winner will win a $20.00 gift certificate so go check it out.  I hope you enter, here's the link: PWP Anything Goes Challenge

WELCOME to Paper Wing Productions' Winter Design Team Blog Hop & Giveaway! If you've arrived here from Katie's blog, then you're in the right place.  If you’re just stopping by for a visit, please CLICK HERE to start from the beginning.

This month our theme is Winter.  So grab something warm, get comfortable and enjoy the hop.

The main prize is a $25.00 gift certificate to the Paper Wings Productions online store.

Today I have a sweet little Winter Princess to share with you.  I think she would look beautiful on a mantel or in a little girls room inside a glass globe.

If you follow me on FB, then you probably saw this pic.  It was this light bulb that inspired my design.  I recently replaced several of the light bulbs in my studio and being the pack rat recycler that I am, I saved them.  I thought that I could probably make something with them.  So when I started thinking about my project, I kept looking at this bulb sitting on my self and then it hit me.  It looks like a dress!!  So I found a small piece of cardboard tube from my junk pile stash and glued it to the top.  The tube works to elongate the bodice and cover up the bulb's prongs.  Then I started looking at my stamps and had another AH-HA moment, the tree looks like a skirt!!  So that was my jumping off point and I ran with it :D  Let me show you how I put her together:

She needed a base so I used an empty spool of ribbon, a sheet from a chipboard mini album, foam, lace trim and scrapbook paper.

I painted the chipboard with Gesso then stamped/embossed it with one of the snowflake stamps.  Next I filled the empty spool with foam, topped it with paper and attached the lace trim.  With that she was ready to take her place of honor.

I used Prismacolor pencils and Stickles to color and embellish my princess.  Since my dress is three dimensional and she is two dimensional, I had room to embellish behind her.  So I used the beautiful leaves and postcard stamp.  Then I tucked in a piece of the ribbon from the Nov Nesting Components kit and some more snowflakes.

Since I ended up covering the "tree skirt", I decided to add another one front and center.  I also added a wooden tree that I dyed with Lindy's spray ink, flowers and a sentiment glued onto an old key.  The Shakespeare quote is on the Waves of Magic stamp set and is attached to a beautiful winter scene but I just wanted the quote so I cut it out.

You'd never know that this beautiful little princess started out as an old light bulb and empty ribbon spools, lol.  I hope I've inspired you to get creative with your stamps and upcycle something that you might have thrown away.

It's time to send you off to your next stop so head on over to Carrie's Blog!!
