We have come up with a fun challenge for 2014.  Each month our designers will be given a challenge of creating their projects using a certain color scheme.  This month our theme is White.  It will be so much fun to see how each designer interprets the color.  Go grab your favorite snack, get comfortable and enjoy the hop.

Happy 2014 Everyone!!  I hope you all had a WONDERFUL holiday season.  Our's was great because we actually had all of our sons here with their families.  Now that two of them are grown, it's really hard to get everyone together so we really enjoyed having them.  I also took a lot of time off to enjoy my family and recharge the ole batteries.  It felt great to sit back down at my work table to create.  So without further ado, here is my project!

I created a tag using the BEAUTIFUL January Nesting Components kit and several PWP stamps.

I was really inspired by the Cosmo Cricket wood charms in the Jan kit.  I had a ton of ideas of what to create with them but settled on making a frame with the rainbow arches.  I wanted to give them texture so I applied a layer of crackle paste, then sprayed them with each of the Lindy's Sidekicks but in the end I decided to cover them with white embossing powder.

  

I formed the shape of my frame on balsa wood and outlined to cut out but the balsa wood began to split as I cut so I ended up using matte board instead.

I used the beautiful Diana stamp for my focal image (she's one of my favs).  I stamped her with Stazon and then used Prismacolor pencils and Distress inks to color her.  Once I was done, I fuzzy cut her to insert into my frame.

I stamped the matte board with the delicate Lace With Border stamp.  I used Old Paper Distress Ink to keep the background subtle.

I put it all together using Modge Podge and then trimmed the matte board down to fit.

Next I moved onto the background of my tag.  I cover the whole tag with paper from the Cosmo Cricket Creative Girl Mini Deck included in the Jan kit.  I toned it down a bit with Picket Fence Distress Stain.  I created a panel using two of the wooden charms.  To keep the design cohesive, I covered them with white embossing powder too.  I also backed them with more of the Cosmo Cricket Creative Girl paper.

I embellished the tag using the adhesive backed Pearls from the Aug Nesting Components kit, rose ribbon and the fireworks bursts from the Sparkle stamp set.  The sentiment I used is on the With Some Sparkle stamp set.

Another little touch I added was some jewelry wire.  I used it to connect the wooden charms together.  To finish it off, I added some ribbon on the top and one of the Cosmo Cricket canvas brads.  I toned it down with more of the Distress Stain.

Shine - Mixed Media Canvas

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope this finds you nice and warm.  Yesterday was a bit of a struggle for me so I got into the studio to relieve some stress.  Being creative is the best medicine in the whole world, don't you think?  Well it is for me and my soul was in need of it.  Don't get me wrong, we're all good here but sometimes (certain times of the month) I'm a bit of a mess over things that don't even matter.  Hopefully you can relate, lol.  Anyway, enough venting right!  I pulled out an old canvas that I never finished.  This one has been sitting here for months.  I had a vision for it but it didn't work out so I benched it.  So whenever I need to relieve some creative steam, the unfinished pieces are the ones I reach for and this is what I came up with:

This is an 8x10 canvas that I applied a layer of crackle paste to and then debossed into.  It was an experiment and it didn't really turn out like I thought it would so that's why I never finished it. I framed the edges using 3-D enamels, love that stuff.

Since I was feeling a bit down, I started researching angels and I found this beautiful image of a child angel.  I began sketching with the little girl in mind but of course it was my character that appeared.  It's funny how we all have different women that always appear in our artwork.  I may change the hair and eye color but they all have the same characteristics.

All of my canvases tell a story of what I'm going through and this one is no different but I'll keep it to myself so you can find your own meaning.

We all have something we're passionate about, a fire that burn inside but sometimes we need a little encouragement to let it out: I know that your's will Shine so brilliant it will be blinding.  I didn't plan on this quote but if found me as I dug through me stash and just seemed so perfect.

This piece is a mixed of crackle paste, acrylic paints, sketching, stamping, markers, pens and rubons.

It's loaded with rich texture and beautiful layers.

Beauty - Mixed Media

Hello, Hello!  I hope you all are having a fabulous week!  So far mine is going great, we've been enjoying Spring Break with family but I did manage to fit in a little studio time.  I've also been adding items to my Etsy store daily and connecting with my local artist community (which is very exciting for me).  This week I was also featured on Dawn Herring's JournalChat over on Twitter, so that was extremely cool.  I feel like it's definitely been a great week so far and I have so much to be grateful for!!

Okay so onto to some art!  

I just finished up this 12x12 canvas and have been itching to share it with you:

I started working on this one about a week ago but really hadn't had the time to sit down and finish until last night.

If you follow me on FB, then you've seen this one coming along.  I started out by adding the swirls with crackle paste and a stencil, then transferring the image with gel medium.

Because there was already a lot of texture on the canvas from the stencil, the eyes and hair didn't transfer well.  So I decided to give her a beautiful butterfly mask and long dark brown hair.

From there she sprang to life and her message fell into place: 

Dare to Dream,

 Beloved All Natural Beauty, 

Forever Believe

I'm very happy with the way she turned out and I think I'm going to make artist prints of this one.  I've been researching how to make prints and I think this would be a perfect canvas to try it on.  Either way, this "Beauty" will be available on Etsy starting tomorrow.

PWP Guest Post

Happy Friday, we made it to the weekend and Fall definitely seems to have arrived.  Well in the early mornings and in the evenings anyway.   This is Texas after all, so our mid-days are still in the upper 90s.  Hey, remember that project I said was my farewell to summer, the one that I did for PWP?!  Well it's up today over at The Aviary and I'd love for you to go over and check it out.  Here is a little peek but you have to visit their blog to see the whole thing ;D

Hey Friends, we made it to the weekend!!!  Today we're heading out to do a little back to school shopping, catch a movie and a bite to eat.  Should be a great day!  Before I go, I wanna share a very special painting that I completed yesterday.  I think I'm gonna call this one "With Love" because I made it for my nieces' room.  One just turned 13 and the other is 9 so I went fun, bright, colorful and inspiring on this one:

This is a 11x14 canvas and I started out by applying a thick coat of Golden Crackle Paste with a palette knife.  I gave it about 24hrs to completely cure before I started adding paint.  Here is a closer look at those beautiful cracks:

Aren't those crack just gorgeous, they really add great texture and interest.  Next I applied Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic in Indian Yellow to the outer edges of the canvas.

Then I pulled out those fabulous Dylusions Ink sprays and had some fun.  I used Crushed Grape, Bubblegum Pink and London Blue.

I used letter stencils in various sizes and sprayed them randomly around the canvas with black Dylusions ink.  I drew the heart and painted it in with Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic then outlined it with black and white India Ink.

  The quote is from a Tim Holtz stamp set but it was too small so I typed it out in Word, printed on cardstock, cut it, inked the edges with TH Distress Ink, Salty Ocean and adhered it to the canvas.  I'm really loving the fun bright colors and I hope my nieces love it too.

Pure Bliss

This is the last of my 8x8 canvases, guess I'll have to run out and get some more this week :o)

To create the background for this canvas I mixed Cobalt Teal Golden Fluid Acrylic with Golden Crackle Paste Medium and applied it with a palette knife.  I also dusted it with Duo Blue-Green Pearl Ex Pigment.  The Pearl Ex adds a nice shimmer to the crackle finish.

The gem heart is actually an iron-on that I found at Hobby Lobby.  The flowers and lace are made by Spare Parts.

The chipboard embellishment is from K&Company.  This collage came together so quickly once I picked my color combo.  I hope your inspired to try your own altered canvas, but I have to warn you.....once you try it, your gonna be hooked, lol!
