Cute & Spooky Birthday Blog Hop & Giveaway

Hello, hello, today I'm honored to help my scrappy friend Kimberly celebrate the 1-year anniversary of her Etsy Shop, Polka Dotted Bliss. She has a spookalicious line-up of talented girls sharing polka-dot Halloween creations all week long on her blog! AND, she's giving away some blog candy each and every day this week. So make sure you stop in all this week, catch some inspiration and enter the giveaways!
So do you follow me on Facebook?  Well if you do then you saw me posting a couple of interesting items like a smashed Altoids tin and some Tinker toys.  All of these items were for this project.  So are you ready to see what I did with them?!!!  Tada!!

"Come a little closer, I have a story to tell", she beckons from her trailer.....

I had so much fun making this piece and even channeled my own gypsy soul ;D.  I started out with a small box that I covered with polka dot paper and paisley fabric.  Then I hung sequenced and beaded trim from the top.  My beautiful gypsy is a clipart image from my stash.

This is the smashed Altoids tin I found.  I layered a Recollections foil frame on top of it and an eye die cut.

I covered the front and edges with vintage fabric then embellished the sides with flowers and bling.

A spider makes his way over the flowing ribbons and flowers.

Inside, I added a Prima door, book of spells, roses, skull and K&Company potion bottles.  They create the perfect scene for this gorgeous gypsy.

I painted the Tinker toys and sprayed them with Lindy's ink to turn them into wheels :D.  I absolutely LOVE the way this turned out!!  I think this one is going on display here in my office.  I hope you love it too!

Blog Candy Time!  This is the goodness that Kimberly is giving away today.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment here, follow my blog or "like" my page on FB and head on over to Kimberly's blog here Polka Dotted Bliss for a chance to win.

**Giveaways Open to US residents only.**

Favorite DOD Mask!

Happy Friday friends!!  I'm still working on getting ready for the Soflo Market this weekend and I wanted to share my latest mask:

OMGosh you guys, I'm really loving this mask right now!!  I think is one of my all time favorites.

I thought it would be fun to do a colored base this time around so I painted the base magenta.  Then I used turquoise and yellow as accents.

I think this is such a hot color combo, don't you?!

The white details really help set off the other colors.

I added black satin ribbon for hanging or wearing.

I'm taking this down to the market with me tomorrow and if it doesn't sell there, I'll be adding it to my Etsy shop.  Thanks so much for visiting me today!  Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Glittered Mask

Hi everyone!  Are you having a great week?  Time really seems to be flying these days but I have made time to do a little creating.  I've also been trying to sketch in my art journal daily.  I'm trying to practice drawing my women for future canvas designs.  Besides that, I squeezed in a couple of Dyan Reavely classes.  I'll try and share what I did her classes soon so keep an eye out for that in the near future.  Today I have a new Day of the Dead mask to share:

I'm trying to get ready for another show this weekend so I'm trying to crank out as many masks as I can.  So far this is the 5th mask I've made this year and they're selling very quickly.  I completed this one yesterday so I now have two in my inventory for Saturday.  That's definitely not enough so I'll be busy trying to create more today and tomorrow.

All of my masks are different but they all have some of my signature designs.

I almost always start with the eyes.

Then I move onto the forehead.  For this mask, I did all of the designs freehand.  I sketch them on and them paint them.

I applied a layer of glitter to the entire mask.  So this is the first mask that sparkles ;D

Thanks so much for stopping by today and sharing a little piece of your day with me.  Have a beautiful day :D

Explore * Love* Laugh - Berry71Bleu October Challenge

Hello, today I'm sharing my spin on the Berry71Bleu October Challenge.  This month Berry71Bleu's sponsors are Speedball and Gelli Arts so I had the pleasure of working with their fabulous products.  I created this fun art journal page:

I started out by creating a monoprint with the gelli plate and Speedball block printing ink.  The Speedball colors I used are: Magenta, Violet and Gold.  I love the consistency of the Speedball paints, they're nice and thick so you get great coverage and vivid color.

I used various stencils and stamps to create interest and texture in my monoprint.

I cut circles from another monoprint to create this beautiful flower.

I used some vintage book text and image for my focal point.

I add a scrap of cardboard and some rubons here and there.

Finally I added some doodling, I feel like adding a little bit of black helps to ground the design.  Well, I hope I've inspired you to play along with us this month because we have some great prizes to share with you!!  Take a look at how generous Speedball and Gelli Arts are:

I was very excited about this month's hop because as many of you already know, I love Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos projects.  So come on, you know I had to make a shrine!!

I picked up this coffin on clearance last year and have been waiting to turn in into a shine.  I started by embossing the new Lace with Border stamp on white cardstock.  Then I cut it to fit, adhered and sprayed with Dylusions inks.

I stamped the Dia De Los Muertos Mujer on black cardstock and embossed in white.  I fussy cut her and added mini butterfly wings.

I used the shine border from the Dia De Los Muertos Mujer set but I cut it and placed one end on the top.  I used the other piece to frame my skeleton.  For the banner, I used the Papel Piqado stamps from the Dia De Los Muertos Hombre set and hung them with jute twine.  I flanked the shrine with the doves in the Milagros stamp set.

I embellished my shrine with paper and artificial flowers.  I also tucked in a heart from the Milagros stamp set.

So when I started working on this piece, I wasn't sure what I was going for but as I worked it hit me.  My inspiration came from one of my very favorite songs by Gloria Estefan.  It's called "No Llores" (Don't Cry), she has several versions of this song but the one I love features Pitbull.  My favorite part of the original song is:

El dia que yo me muera (The day I die)
No quiero que me manden flores (I don't want you to send me flowers)
Lo que me des, damelo en vida (What you give me, give me while I'm alive)
No habra razon pa' que me llores (Then there'll be no reason for you to cry for me)

Isn't that beautiful and I really love all of Pitbull's part too.  I love jamming to this, enjoy!!

Like Pitbull says, "I lived my life the way I wanted, just like you should live yours the way you want".

The other quote I wrote is:

Asi como tu eres, yo era (The way you are, I was)
Asi como yo so, tu seras (The way I am, you will be)

That's what I imagined she wanted to say :D  This shrine really inspired me so I'll be doing more in depth pieces using these sentiments in the near future.  Well I hope you've enjoyed my post, now it's time to head on over to Shay's Blog!!
