Sugar Skull Mask

Hi!!  I finished up the mask I was telling you about yesterday :D

This was coordinates with the small skull I shared yesterday.

I just signed up for another show that takes place in about two weeks so I'm really trying to get as much done as possible.  In the meantime, I'll be adding this mask to my Etsy shop but it will be available for purchase at my shows as well.

This heart was the only stamp I used on this mask.  It's made by Paper Wings Productions and can be found on the Milagros stamp set.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or pm me on Facebook.  I love sharing information so don't be shy ;D

Thanks for stopping by my little slice of blogland & have a beautiful day!!

This Heart Is Sacred Sugar Skull

Hey, hey, I'm back with another mini skull and I think this one just might be my favorite so far!!

I really LOVE the colors on this one and I'm loving the spiderweb too.

I usually start with the eyes but the spiderweb drove this design.  Everything on this skull is hand drawn except for the two hearts.  They are both by Paper Wings Productions.

For the backside, I used a rose stamp from my stash and the sentiment is also from Paper Wings Producitons.

Here is a better look at that spiderweb.  I'm also working on a coordinating mask that I should finish up today.  Well friends, thanks so much for stopping by!!  Have a beautiful day :D

Soar - Mixed Media Canvas

Happy Friday Everyone!!  I didn't think I was gonna be able to share my latest canvas with you today because it's been raining so much.  Luckily there was a break in the rain and the sun peeked out just a little bit so I ran out to get some pics.  This is an 11x14 canvas that I finished up this morning:

No words on this one so you can form your own interpretation of what she might be saying, thinking or doing.  I thought about adding a sentiment but in the end I decided she was beautiful all on her own.

I wanted to take a break from all the Dia De Los Muertos skullz so I pulled out a canvas and just started adding all the scraps of papers that were beginning to accumulate on my desk from recent projects.  So at this point, I had no plan at all, lol.

Then I decided that I wanted to practice painting my ladies using the canvas vertically and this beauty began to emerge.

I was also working on a custom order using a Prima stencil and tinted molding paste.  So in the spirit of not wasting supplies, the left overs went on this piece.

I gave her bold red lipstick and a red blouse because to me, she is a beautiful strong women.  She has wings to soar above all the drama around her.  She's smiling because she's confident and knows her own strength.  Her backdrop is blue and green because she is at peace with herself and her life, she's happy.  Okay so that's what I see in her.  I'd love to hear what you see.  What's your interpretation?

Thank you so much for stopping by my little slice of blogland!  Have a Wonderful weekend!!

Hugs to you all :D

Colorful Skull - Dia De Los Muertos

Hello!  Today I'm back with another small skull.  I actually finished this one last week but just didn't have the time to share.  This is only my second full skull this year and I have another one primed and ready to start.  I'm hoping to get several done by the end of the month but we'll see.  You know how time flies when you're having fun!  Anyway, here is my skull :D

This is margarita green with fresh squeezed orange, lol.

I added traditional flowers such as marigolds and roses.

Since these guys are fairly small, I kept the design simple.

If you're interested in seeing sneak peeks of the projects I'm working on, like my Facebook page.  I post a lot of the behind the scenes studio action there and share posts that I find inspirational.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a beautiful day!!

Pumpkin Patch Layout - Berry71Bleu Sept. Challenge

Hello, hello, it's my turn to post over at Berry71bleu for this month's mixed media challenge!!  Debbie is hosting this month and she provided a beautiful sketch to work with so this is my spin:

I love mixed media so I was really excited about Debbie's challenge.  Mixed media is a wonderful way to add depth and customize your projects with paint and inks.  It's kind of like an anything goes pass because you can mixed in anything you want.  For my layout, I started out with the beautiful papers from Maja Designs' Walking in the Forest collection.  The gorgeous background paper I used is called Autumn Poem.

I wanted to bring in some greens without covering too much of the beautiful Maja Designs paper so I did it by stenciling.  I used a Prima stencil with Golden Molding paste and fluid acrylic mixed with a Faber-Castell Gelato to get the color I wanted.  Once it was dry, I dusted the top with Vintage Photo distress ink.  I accented my layout with a couple Scrapiniec pieces that I sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang inks.

I created several layers using more of the Maja Designs Walking in the Forest papers and a torn piece of cardboard.  I love the texture that cardboard adds to a project, the corrugated ridges pick up paint really well.

For this little cluster, I cut rosettes from a sheet of Maya's Knitted Sweater.  It has a great chevron pattern on it.  I topped each rosette with some of my flea market jewelry findings.  I also added jute twine and an artificial rose.

Finally, I inked all of the edges with orange Liquitex soft body acrylic paint.

Here is a look at Debbie's original sketch, I flipped it and worked on the right side of the page.  I hope I've inspired you to play along with this month's challenge because we have some really great prizes up for grabs!!

Our main sponsor this month is Maja Design.

Dia De Los Muertos Skull

Today I have a fun little paper mache skull to share.

This about 6" x 3 1/2".  I finished another one yesterday that I'll share with you tomorrow.  I have one more prepped and ready to go so I'll probably try to get that one done between today and tomorrow.  After that, I think I'll take a small break from the skulls to work on my DT assignments.

For this skull, I did a combination of stamps and freehand.

The big flowers are from a stamp set that I've had in my stash for many, many years.

Here's a look at the other side.

The roses are from the Paper Wings Productions Dia De Los Muertos Hombre stamp set and instrument is from the Paper Wings Productions Dia De Los Muertos Mujer stamp set.

I just love autumn because of all the warm rich colors. Fall and Halloween are also my absolute favorite seasons/holidays to create for so I was really looking forward to this hop. I enjoy finding hidden treasures at thrift shops, flea markets, garage and estate sales and lately I have found a ton of things to work with like the base of this month's project.

This is the base before I started to alter it.  I knew this would make a gorgeous shrine :D

I covered the base with gesso and added a scrap piece of chicken wire.  At this point I decided it would be easier to use spray primer so I took it outside and sprayed the whole thing.

I painted the shrine with a light coat of Golden Fluid Acrylic in Burnt Umber then sprayed it with Lindy's Stamp Gang in Burt Umber Moon Shadow Mist and Glory of the Seas Gold Starburst.

The image I used is from the clipart sheet in Sept Nesting Components kit and I added a little crown from the new Crowns stamp set. I created a chipboard frame using the Build A Shine set. I stamped the Dragonfly Fairy twice on book text and the wings out to create flowers. I attached the wings to wooden dowels so they would stand easily.

I used the Everyone Needs stamp set for my sentiment and attached it directly to the metal frame.

This sentiment is included in the new Dragonfly Fairy stamp set and the beautiful bronze sunflower is one of my flea market finds.

I tucked in a copper embossed leaf from the Leaf Cling Stamp set behind the artificial flowers.

I hope I've inspired you to get creative with this beautiful assortment of Paper Wings Productions products!! Stop by the online store to see what treasure you can find!! Make sure to head on over to Shay's Blog Next!!
