Sunshine Award

Okay let's get started :D

1.  Where are you from?
I'm born and raised in beautiful San Antonio, Texas.

2.  Have you always lived there?
No, I lived in Germany for three years and then in Colorado for two while I served in the U.S. Army.

3.  What did you want to be when you were young?
I wanted to be a Psychiatrist or FBI profiler.  I'm so fascinated with the criminal mind and trying to figure out why they do what they do.

4.  What is your favorite TV show?
I don't get to watch TV that often but when I do my favorite show to watch is Criminal Minds.  I love how they start and end with a quote and all of the profiling and crime solving.  Reed is my favorite character because he reminds me so much of my youngest son.

5.  What inspired your love of art?
My big brother Frank.  I'm the youngest of 5 and I totally looked up to everything my big brother Frank did.  He's 11 years older than me and when he was in high school he took an art class.  He drew so good and was able to draw things from his imagination.  I remember this one sketch in particular, it was of the earth and it had a face and arms.  It was covering it's ears and was making an angry face.  I guess the earth was unhappy with the way we treat it.

6.  When did you start scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking after the birth of my youngest son.

7.  Why did you start scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking because I wanted preserve my family's memories.  I've always been crafty but was never interested in scrapbooking until my mother passed away.  When she passed, I received a lot of old photos that she held on to and I had no idea who the people in the photos were or why she had saved them.  So I wanna make sure that my children and grandchildren get know me better through the photos and stories that are important to me.  I want them to know about our family and where we come from.

8.  How old were you when you started driving?
I didn't start driving until I was 20 years old.  I taught myself to drive when I was in the military.  I was deployed to the Middle East and they needed my to have a driver's licence so I was given a licence without any kind of test.  I bought my very first car when I came back from Saudi and didn't know how to turn on the lights or put gas.  I picked it up at a port 6 hrs away from where I lived and had to drive back home in the dark.  This was in Germany, so the first time I really drove was on the autobahn, at night, in rain and snow (yikes, scary).

9.  Are you shy or very outgoing?
I would definitely have to say shy especially in large groups but I can be outgoing too.  It just depends on how comfortable I feel at the time.

10.  Where is your favorite place to be?
The beach, it's so beautiful and peaceful.  Whenever I'm there I feel like all my problems are gone and everything is just perfect.  Especially when my family is there with me.

We made it to the weekend YIPPIE!!!  Is it 5 o'clock yet, lol, no okay on to some scrapbooking then.  This is a really quick post because I should be linking up to PWP later on today so stay tuned for that.  You won't wanna miss my new project ;D

A Hunting We Will Go

Remember how I was telling you about my awesome Tuesday in yesterday's post?  Well, I should have kept my mouth shut cuz Wednesday was horrible, lol.  Mostly because I'm having to set up a new project for my DH's business and there are a lot of new requirements that we have to follow.  So I'm having to figure out the new system and it's way more work than the old one (BOO).  It's also gonna force me implement new policies and procedures.  No fun at all....I'd much rather be crafting up something pretty.

I'm still working through my Halloween album so today I have a layout of us doing some Trick or Treating with family and friends:

My youngest is totally a mamma's boy and he did not like the pic of me and nephew at all.  He kept asking me why I took that pic, lol.  My little one is the Power Ranger :D

I can't wait to get all dressed up this year.  My DH has a funny costume and mine is kinda spooky.  I'm gonna try and do a practice makeup run this weekend to make sure I have everything I need.  Are you getting dressed up for Halloween?  We try to dress up every year but some years I'm just to busy to get costumes for me & my honey bun so only my son dresses up.

Well, I better go!  I have a project to get turned in to my friends over at PWP.

All Dressed Up!

Happy Hump Day!!  
Can you believe the week is half way gone?!  Time just needs to slow down already don't you think, lol.  Well, I hope your week has been going smoothly.  I've been taking it slow and just catching my breath a bit.  When things get real busy I usually need to take a little break to regroup.  I have been creating but I can't share anything with you just yet.  I also have some exciting news to share with you but I have to wait til I get the okay before I fill you in.  Sorry........:D

Well yesterday was a really great day.  I finished shopping for my costume and my son had his very first choir performance.  My DH even treated me to my favorite Chinese restaurant, I tell ya....life doesn't get much better than this ;D

Alright on to some scrapbooking!  Today I'm sharing another Halloween layout:

I dressed up as a Greek goddess (you can't tell right, lol) and my DH was a Roman Soldier.  Do you see that pumpkin pinata?  My sister and I spent a lot of time making that for her big Halloween party.   When her DH was stringing it up for the kids, it fell and broke, lol.  I guess we didn't make it thick enough!

This is a little file folder for some hidden journaling (oops...guess I never wrote in the pumpkin story).

Our Little Pumpkin

Hi Everyone!!  Did you have a good weekend?  Mine was actually very nice.  On Saturday we went garage sailing in the morning then shopping for Halloween costumes.  Sunday we relaxed at home then did our outside chores.  I love when everything is nice and neat and in its place.  We really needed to clean up since I'd been so busy lately things started to get a bit out of control.  

Thanks so to all of you that sat through my videos.  I know they were long and really needed some music.  You know I've come to realize that I really take a long time when I create.  The art journal page that I taped took me around three - four hours to do.  I spend a lot of time layering then figuring out my design once the background is complete.  I'll have to figure out a way to cut down the time in the videos.

Okay now on to some scrapbooking!  This is a layout of our 2003 Halloween, boy time sure does fly.....this little guy is almost as tall as me now.

I used a scalloped paper by Pink Paislee and a LYB frame.

He didn't wear this costume for long because it was way to hot.  Needless to say, that was the last time I bought a felt costume, lol.

Art Journaling TEST videos

Hi there!!
I've been working on creating a video to share with you for the last few days.  Boy....I had know idea it would be so much work and take so much time to edit/save & upload!  Well maybe it's just me and my learning curve, lol.  Here is a look at the final art journal page from the videos I'm gonna show you:

It was quite the adventure trying to video tape this!  When I first started, I didn't know the camera was shifting on me.  Then as I was working, the battery ran out and I had no idea so I was still chugging along.  Next my DH decides to move the camera.  He was trying to adjust it for me because I didn't capture my complete page.  Oh well, it's all good right!  Just remember this is my first try so it can only get better from here, lol.  Feel free to leave me any tips that might help me figure this out.  Maybe next time I'll remember to add music!

Here are some closer looks:
I used a stencil and molding paste for the bird then colored it with oil pastels.

The background is a combination of papers, acrylics, goauche, stamps, tapes and inks. 

I used white ink, gel pen and white out pen on this project.

I used India ink for the sentiment.

I made the flower with the button on it with joint tape.  The other two are by the Paper Studio and I added paint to all of them.

I applied the molding paste with a pallet knife and let it cure overnight.

The Crow

Hello, Hello!  Today I'm sharing another Halloween layout, this is my older son back when he was twelve.  He was really into the crow so I tried to paint his face like him.  We still tease him about these pics and those full lips, lol.  I'll be posting all of my Halloween layouts this month so let me know if you get tired of them.

  I'm still working on doing a video for you all.  I've been trying to record every night but I'm still having problems.  In my first try, I didn't hit the right button so nothing was recorded.  The second try went well but my battery died so it didn't record everything.  Last night I used a new microphone stand to hold the camera but I guess it was to close because it didn't capture all of the journal I was working on.  So my question to you is:  Would you still like to see the video anyway?  I'm gonna try editing it today and might post it.  I really like the way my art journal page turned out.  Hopefully I'll get this whole thing figured out soon.  Well, thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day!!

The Halloween Gang - 2002

Today I have a really quick post because I was up late trying to figure out how to film videos.  Hopefully I'll have something to share with you very soon.  Anyway, this is a layout I did back when I first started out.  This was my youngest son's first Halloween.


My first scrapbook page was way better right, lol!  I would love to redo this page but I'm gonna resist the urge and put it back in the album :D

My Very 1st Scrapbook Page

Hi everyone!  Did you have a great weekend?  Mine was CRAZY!  If you follow me on FB then just skip ahead because you've already heard about my weekend, lol.  

Well, let me tell you what happened to me.  Remember I was gonna be in my very first craft show, well it was a complete disaster.  It was outdoors and the weather was terrible.  It didn't rain but the winds were really strong.  My canopy lifted completely off the ground and knocked over one of my tables.   Of course it was the one table that had a glass top and it broke all over the place.  Everything was falling over with the wind so I couldn't set up like I had planned.   Seriously I was holding back the tears and I just wanted to go home but I stuck it out.  Once it started, hardly anybody showed up and after about an hour some of the vendors started packing it up.  On the bright side, I did sell a little bit and I met some really nice people too.  I'll just chalk it up to a learning experience so it's all good!

Okay now for some scrapbooking!  Today I'm sharing the very 1st layout I ever made:

 I started out with orange cardstock and layered in some Halloween patterned papers.  I even used a scrap of fabric down at the bottom but here's the best part:  I love inking the edges of everything so I wanted to use this technique on my journaling but remember, this is my very first time scrapbooking right.  I had to idea how to achieve this look so I thought the only way was to burn my paper.  Yes... I said burn, lol!  I printed out my journaling and even added a little clip art.  Then I pulled out a lighter and burned the edges, lol.  I thought my smoke alarm was gonna go off!!  I can't believe I did that, luckily I found some videos online after that and learned all about inking :D

Dia De Los Muertos Calavera

Happy Friday Friends!!  Do you have big plans this weekend?  I'll be participating in a craft fair on Saturday then relaxing on Sunday :D

I've been having so much fun working on Halloween and Fall projects this year, I hope you're not getting tired of them yet.  I'll be turning my attention to Christmas before you know it, so just bare with me a little longer ;D.  Today I have a Dia De Los Muertos Calavera to share with you.

This started out as a paper mache skull from Michaels and I just went to town with all the beautiful bright paints I could find in my bin.

I did everything freehand and tried to let it just flow.

The roses are all by Paper Studio.

I love the way this turned out.  This year was the first time I've ever worked on any type of Day of the Dead project and I have to tell you it's been really nice to learn about this part of my culture.  Right now I'm working on a few more skull ornaments before I finish up with all my Halloween projects.  I'm hoping to get them finished up tonight for the fair tomorrow.  Well, I better get to work!  Thank you so much for stopping by today for all your kind comments.  Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Grateful Pumpkins

Wow, can you believe the weekend is almost here!  Today my DH is helping me get ready for my very first craft show (member the one I thought was last weekend, lol)  I hope it goes well but even if I don't sell a thing, I'm looking forward to just meeting everyone that comes out.

Okay so I finished up a new batch of pumpkin treat boxes over this past weekend using some of the new Paper Wings Productions stamps.

I think I like this batch even more than the first one.  What do you think?  You can see the 1st batch HERE.

I painted all of the pumpkins with acrylic paints then stamped with gesso.  For this pumpkin, I used  the text from the new PWP Halloween Is Here cling stamp set.

I used a combination of Text Cling Stamp Set & Thanks is for Giving.

This little guy is all from the Text Melange Cling Stamp set.

Harvest Inspired Witch Hat

Hey friends, how's your week going so far?  I was a bit under the weather yesterday so I didn't do any new crafting.  Luckily I was on a roll last week and completed several fall projects.  So today I'm sharing a fall inspired witch hat.  I bought several of these and ended up doing the last two in the same color scheme so I wanted this one to be different. My DIL helped me out by giving all of my paper mache projects a coat of gesso, Thanks Kat!  I started by painting on a mixture of orange, raw umber and golden orchard acrylic paints.  Once the paint was dry I decided to add white tissue paper for some texture.

I applied a second layer of my paint mixture then did a little inking with Tim Holtz's Walnut Stain.  Next I added glittered cream tulle and fall florals.

The beautiful cream ribbon is from my stash.

See that gorgeous little buckle?  My DH bought that for me at a garage sale one morning.  He's an early bird and the rest of us are night owls so he goes out to garage sales early in the morning and finds little treasures for me.  He's the bestest ;D, lol.

Oh!  I wanted to tell you about my new toy!!  I've had several of you ask me about doing some video tutorials and after speaking to Carrie & Julie over at PWP I decided to give it a try.  So thanks to Julie's pointers, I went out a got a camera that I can use to upload videos.  I haven't had a chance to play with it just yet because I've been sick and my son thinks its his so he's been hogging it, lol, but keep an eye out for videos in the near future!  Gotta run, THANKS so much for stopping by!   Take Care!!

Jenn's 2yr Blogaversary!!!

Welcome to Scrap Happens ~ Embellish It's 2nd Blogoversary Blog Hop. I'm so excited to be participating with so many talented ladies today and I'm so glad you've joined us because you're in for a real treat!

This is an ANYTHING GOES hop and there are so many different craft projects to see along the way. So let's get to it shall we! I've got a series of two paintings to share with you today. This is a 9x12 canvas titled "Winged Hope". I used tissue paper, soft body acrylics, oil pastels India Ink and stamps to create this piece.
Here's a closer look at the texture that I created by applying tissue paper to the background. The larger flower is a Donna Downey stamp. I colored it in with oil pastels and then used paints to add in low lights and highlights. I doodled around all of the edges with India ink.
The quote I used is by Emily Dickinson, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all."
I had so much fun creating the first one that I decided to make a second coordinating piece.
I used Liquitex Glass Bead medium to add texture to this canvas. Once it cured overnight, I began layering in fluid acrylics, soft body acrylics, oil pastels, stamps and India Ink. I think this one is my favorite of the two because of the beautiful bright colors.
The sentiment I used is Psalms 46:10 by PWP. You can find it on their scriptures stamp set.

Black Cat & Little Ghost Boo Signs

Hey.....you wanna hear something funny?!  So on Wednesday I went down to Homestead to pick up some of my paintings for the craft show I'm doing this weekend, right.  So then Thursday morning I call the organizer to find out where I need to set up on Saturday and she says, "NO, it's next weekend"!  LOL, so I did all that and have been rushing for NO reason.  Yup leave it to me, lol.  So yesterday, there I am going to put everything back at Homestead and its not down the street either!  Oh well, whatcha gonna do but go with the flow!

Okay, so I've been on a roll lately!  I've finished two paintings, a witch hat and two boo signs.  Not bad huh :D  You'll have to wait til Jenn's Blog Hop on Saturday to see the paintings but here are the two new BOO signs I made yesterday:

I used a PWP background script stamp and gesso to resist on the stamp.  Then sprayed it with Crushed Grape Dylusions Ink Spray.

The black cat and BOO are by LYB.  The papers are Basic Grey.

I used the same PWP background script stamp on this tag, then inked it with distress ink.  The cute little trick-or-treater is by K&Company and the silver frame is by Recollections.

The pumpkin is LYB and BOO is by DaisyD's.  The papers are MME. 

The BOO poems are on the backs of both signs.
