Fairy Spoolie

Today I have a cute little Spoolie to share you.  I've been wanting to make one of these for awhile and when I saw the PWP Mar Mixed Media, I knew it would be perfect for this kind of project.

Isn't she adorable?!  Everything on this project came in the PWP Mar Mixed Media kit except for the spool, small flowers, bling and the sentiment.

I started out by adhering the twill trim to an old wooden spool.

Then I cut out some flowers using my Cricut Flower Shoppe cartridge.  I cut the flowers out of the sheets of book text included in the kit and inked them with Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.    I glued all of the layers of flowers to the top of the spool to create a base for my fairy.  Do you see the key trim that she's standing on?  That is a small wooden piece that I covered with the other trim included in the kit.

I added a small crotchet flower to the top of the wooden piece for a nice finished look.

This cute little fairy and her beautiful wings are on the sheet of clip art.  I fussy cut them out and added some color using Tim Holtz Distress Markers.  I also added a little sparkle with Stickles.

To give her a little more support, I cut one of the library cards with the Tim Holtz Mini Baroque die.  Then I ran it through my Cuttlebug with a Tim Holtz embossing folder and inked with TH Victorian Velvet and Vintage Photo.  The sentiment I used is from the PWP Prince Stamp set.  I adhered it with foam for some dimension.

To finish her off, I added some flowers from my stash, a flower button and some Recollections bling.  I really like the way this turned so I think I'll be making more spoolies.

Thank You Card

Hello There!!  So if you visit me a lot, then you've probably noticed that I don't make to many cards.  Well guess what?!  Today I'm sharing a card!!  One of our friend's mom is so sweet to us and the other day she made us TWO banana bread cakes.  Oh man, they are so so good!  One was suppose to go in the freezer for later but not around here, lol.  We ate them both and yes I'm paying the price because I've been gaining a lot of weight lately but that's a whole other conversation.  Anyway we really appreciate her thinking of us so I wanted to make her a card.

I made my base with BoBonny Ocean Dot.  I really love the color of this paper.  I've been hoarding it for years (literally).

Almost everything else I used is from the Colorbok Flea Market collection.

I used an Inkadinkado stamp for my sentiment and made a stick pin with the beads in my stash.  The flower button is also from my stash.  I hope she likes the card I made her :D

Thanks so much for stopping by today & have a beautiful, inspired day!!

Isn't her layout beautiful?!  Okay now let me tell you about the challenge, this month's theme is "New Beginnings" and you are invited to interpret this theme anyway you'd like as long as you incorporate a stencil or mask in your design.   Easy Peasy, Right!!  Here is the original introduction of the challenge written by DT Member Dana Tatar from the Zeus and Zoe blog:

A talented set of new designers begin their term this month and to celebrate the commencement of the new design term and the upcoming Spring Equinox, the Zeus and Zoe Team challenges you to create a project inspired by the theme "New Beginnings." If you started a new job, moved to a new city, are taking a class, treated yourself to a makeover, repainted your house, celebrated the birth of a child, or are reorganizing your scrap space we want to see how this journey has inspired you! This theme is open for interpretation, so we are adding an additional requirement for this challenge to use a mask or stencil on your entry

and finally, here is an inspiration board that Dana put together to spark your creative!!
This board includes some of the projects made by the design team for this month's challenge and here are the prizes you could win!!

One project will be chosen by the design team using a voting system and besides bragging rights, the winner will receive this prize from this month's sponsor DecorArt:

Graphic 45 Design Team 2013 Audition

Update, 4.4.13!!!  Sadly I was not chosen but I will all those who were much luck.

Hello, Hello My Sweet Bloggie Friends!!!  I hope you're having a fantastic day!  I'm so glad you stopped by for a little visit because today is a very big day for me.  You see,  I've decided to throw my hat in the G45 ring!!  That's right I'm going for it and this is my official audition post!

I'm very excited to share some of my favorite projects with you.  So let's get this show on the road shall we!  I've added the link to the original post at the bottom of each project.  That way you can take a closer look and find out how each project came together.

First up is this beautiful scrapbook style canvas that I created with the Paper Wings Productions March Mixed Media kit.  That absolutely adorable little girl is my big sis and this canvas is my gift to her.

This is a fun little tag I created with a playing card that I picked up at an estate sale.

This interesting little book is an altered miniature composition notebook.  I added layer upon layer of patterned papers, paints, stamps and rubons to create this gem.

This gorgeous card was for a friend's Grandparent's Day Blog Hop.

Oh and this layout is for a very special event in our family, the arrival of our grand daughter.

This wonderful mixed media collage was a really fun project to make and you can see it come together in this post: Hope

Thanks so much for joining me on this stroll down memory lane.  Wish me luck!!

For my new G45 friends, I appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog and invite you to browse through my posts and galleries to get to know me and my work a little better!!

Have a Beautiful Day and Thanks for stopping by!!

Be True - Mixed Media Paper Mache Heart

I finished the large paper mache heart that I started on Sunday.  Check it out!!

I love the way it turned out!!  I usually don't draw people or anything really on my projects but when I first saw the paper mache heart, I immediately imaged this kind of image.

I started out by prepping the heart with a layer of gesso and then I drew my focal image.  After that I added some texture with molding paste and a stencil.  Next came all the layers of color and my favorite 3-D Enamel swirls.

With the background off to a good start, I moved onto coloring her in.  I wanted her to have an ethic flair ;D

I added tons of rose and flourish rubons and a Tim Holtz heart stamp.

It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to say and then it came to me, "Be True To Who You Are".  I added "Courage" to the TH stamp after that because it takes courage to be true to yourself.   I chose this quote because it expresses how I feel right now.  It's been just over a year since I've returned to the "creative" world.  I've always had a passion for creating but as you all know, life sometimes gets in the way.  So it had been years since I'd done any kind of creating and I was feeling unfulfilled.  I began soul searching and decided that what I needed to do was to get back in the studio and be true to myself.  I dived right in and launched Honey Bee Studios and I've been so happy with where this journey is taking me.

These days I'm even finding the courage to actually draw again :D  I still have a few more of these hearts so I see a series in my future!!  Well friends, as always, THANK YOU so much for stopping by and for all the sweet comments you leave!!

Have A Beautiful Day!!!

Happy Monday Everyone!  I just wanted to pop in and say HELLO and to WELCOME my newest bloggie friends: Ana K., Chantal and Tara!!  Ladies thanks so much for joining me!!

Did you all have a great weekend?  Well today it's back to the grind after and extended Spring Break.  This year school let out on Thursday so the break was nice and long.  We spent a lot of time with family so that was really great.  I didn't really do any creating but will get back to it this week (hopefully, lol).  I did start a new project yesterday so I'll share that as soon as I'm done.  Here's a little looksy:

I've also been adding items to my Etsy store daily and I'm really excited to have artist prints available now. So I think I'm gonna start offering prints of some of my art journaling pages too.  Anyway, I better start getting this house back in order.  Have a Wonderful Day and Thanks for stopping by!!!

Beauty - Mixed Media

Hello, Hello!  I hope you all are having a fabulous week!  So far mine is going great, we've been enjoying Spring Break with family but I did manage to fit in a little studio time.  I've also been adding items to my Etsy store daily and connecting with my local artist community (which is very exciting for me).  This week I was also featured on Dawn Herring's JournalChat over on Twitter, so that was extremely cool.  I feel like it's definitely been a great week so far and I have so much to be grateful for!!

Okay so onto to some art!
I just finished up this 12x12 canvas and have been itching to share it with you:
I started working on this one about a week ago but really hadn't had the time to sit down and finish until last night.

If you follow me on FB, then you've seen this one coming along.  I started out by adding the swirls with crackle paste and a stencil, then transferring the image with gel medium.

Because there was already a lot of texture on the canvas from the stencil, the eyes and hair didn't transfer well.  So I decided to give her a beautiful butterfly mask and long dark brown hair.

From there she sprang to life and her message fell into place:
Dare to Dream,
 Beloved All Natural Beauty,
Forever Believe

I'm very happy with the way she turned out and I think I'm going to make artist prints of this one.  I've been researching how to make prints and I think this would be a perfect canvas to try it on.  Either way, this "Beauty" will be available on Etsy starting tomorrow.

I've got some other exciting news to share soon, so keep an eye & ear out!  I really want to THANK all of you for all of your kind and encouraging words.  They really mean the world to me and I am so grateful to have this forum to share my love of art with you.  Have a wonderful day & from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!!
