With Love

Hey Friends, we made it to the weekend!!!  Today we're heading out to do a little back to school shopping, catch a movie and a bite to eat.  Should be a great day!  Before I go, I wanna share a very special painting that I completed yesterday.  I think I'm gonna call this one "With Love" because I made it for my nieces' room.  One just turned 13 and the other is 9 so I went fun, bright, colorful and inspiring on this one:

This is a 11x14 canvas and I started out by applying a thick coat of Golden Crackle Paste with a palette knife.  I gave it about 24hrs to completely cure before I started adding paint.  Here is a closer look at those beautiful cracks:

Aren't those crack just gorgeous, they really add great texture and interest.  Next I applied Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic in Indian Yellow to the outer edges of the canvas.

Then I pulled out those fabulous Dylusions Ink sprays and had some fun.  I used Crushed Grape, Bubblegum Pink and London Blue.

I used letter stencils in various sizes and sprayed them randomly around the canvas with black Dylusions ink.  I drew the heart and painted it in with Liquitex Soft Body Acrylic then outlined it with black and white India Ink.

  The quote is from a Tim Holtz stamp set but it was too small so I typed it out in Word, printed on cardstock, cut it, inked the edges with TH Distress Ink, Salty Ocean and adhered it to the canvas.  I'm really loving the fun bright colors and I hope my nieces love it too.

Launching a New Dream

Hello Hello my crafty peeps, it's finally Friday!!!!  I'm not sure what our plans are but I think everyone around here has to work which means I'm babysitting (translation = not much crafty time for me).  I guess we'll just have to wait and see if I can squeeze some in somewhere.  Anyway, I've been working on a few paintings the last couple of nights and I finished one:

I wanted to do something a bit different from my last few pieces and this is what I came up with.  This is a 11x14 canvas, all paint except the clouds.  I used a stencil for the clouds and to trace the hot air balloons on the canvas.

Here is a closer look at the hot air balloons.  The little brown bird is a BoBunny rubon.

This is a quote that my Mom use to have on a plaque at her house and now it lives in my studio :D  Pretty good words to remember don't you think!

Dylusions Make Me Happy!

I finally had a chance to go by Stamp Antonio and pick up my order of Dylusions Ink Sprays :D  I can't wait to start playing with these babies!

After I picked them up, I went to Home Goods and found this spice tray for $5.99.  Luckily they fit in it and in my drawer perfectly.  I like to have my things nice and organized so I know where everything is when I need it.  Since I've been back, I've been rearranging all my supplies and my furniture to make my studio more functional.  I think I might need to do a little purging too, we'll see ;D  So far I'm really liking the changes I've made.

Catching up

Why is it that you always feel like you need a staycation after a vacation?!  I've been so busy catching up on chores and work ever since I got back.  You know, I think I'm ready for school to start again just so we'll be on some kind of regular schedule.  Well, yesterday I had to go into town for work so of course I just had to stop into Michaels ;D but I'll show you what I picked up in a minute.  First I wanna share a teeny tiny peek at the project I finished up over the weekend for PWP:

DIY Wall Shelf

Hey there, did you have a good weekend?!  I got some chores done, upcycled an old shelf and completed a project for PWP.  So I'm pretty happy with everything I was able to scratch off of my to do list.

This is a shelf that I use to have in our second apt years and years ago.  I dragged it around to two different houses since then, lol.  It sat in the attic of our old house and has been in our garage since we moved here over two years ago.  I even tried selling it in a garage sale but nobody wanted it, lol. 

Well, I decided it was time to give it a makeover and bring it back in.

I sent my DH to HM Depot with instructions to bring me a pretty blue and boy does he know me, he brought me the PERFECT shade :D

I was going to use the door but then decided I wanted to have it open instead.  So I added some pretty MME paper to help tie in the red from my studio.

Here it is up on the wall and all filled up!  See that adorable little canvas on the top shelf, my DIL made that!  Isn't it just too cute :D

Well, I hope you liked my little shelf makeover and before you toss out that old shelf; remember, a little paint does wonders!

DIY Saturday!

Hello, I'm just popping in to say hi and see what your up to on this fine Saturday!  I'm cleaning out the garage in hopes of finding a paper towel holder from my last house.  I need one in my studio and don't wanna go out and buy a new one when I know I already have one here somewhere.

I'm also working on a couple of DIY projects:

This is a hutch I found at a little Antique store out in Luling a couple weeks ago.  I'm going to refinish it with a fresh coat of Antique White.  This is going to be part of my new display at Homestead Handcrafts.  I'm hoping it'll help me build a better display and I've grown tired of the current set up.

This is an old self that I had in our apartment years and years ago.  I've been hauling it around forever so I decided it was time to give it a make over and put it in my studio.

Here's a look inside.  Well I'm gonna start painting, have a wonderful day!!!

Yay It's Finally Friday!!!

Hey there, I'm back home!  We came in yesterday for my son's birthday and I made him the big dinner he wanted.  It's really nice to go out on vacation but there is no place like home so I'm really happy to be here.  I'm not sure what we're doing this weekend but I'm sure we'll be doing more for my son's birthday.  Anyway, today I'm sharing a fun Sponge Bob layout from our trip to Universal Studios a few years ago.

 Notice how my son is kinda far from Sponge Bob, for some reason he was a little scared of him.  He was fine with all the other characters so not sure why Sponge Bob freaked him out a bit, lol. 

Okay, I started out with blue cardstock and drew in the yellow flowers and seaweeds.   I fussy cut the Sponge Bob on the left is from some toy packaging and the jellyfish is a foam sticker that I outlined with a white pen to add some detail.  Well my friends, that's it for today!  I'll be back on Monday :D

Happy 23rd Birthday Day My Sweet Boy!!!

Today is the BIG day!  My sweet baby boy is turning 23 yrs old today :D  To celebrate his special day he asked me to make Shrimp Etouffee and my DH to make Pineapple Upside Down cake.  So we're heading back home to make him a special dinner :D

Okay, now for some scrapbooking!!  When he turned 21, I gave him a birthday album filled with special memories.

He just had to lick the cake, lol!

 

 These are just a few of the pages in his book, there are holidays and other special photos in it.

But this one is my very favorite, I had these photos taken when we were stationed in Germany.  He was about four years old in this photo.  I love the way he's looking up at me.  This boy drives me crazy but he means the world to me :D

Happy Birthday My Sweet Sweet Boy!!!

Seventeen

Hey Friends!!  I'm out spending some time at the beach this week but luckily I was smart enough to snap some pics for my posts ;D  So today I have a layout that I did for my son when he was 17. 

For this layout I used patterned paper from the "Once Upon a Time" collection (I can't remember who makes it but I think Joann's still carries it).  The tag and "S" were cut using the Cricut Stamped cart and the rest of the title letters are stamped on.

I added some Stickles to the dragon's fire for a little interest.

To add just a bit more to the patterned paper, I drew in some flames then painted it in.

 This layout was all about how my son was going through some rough times while trying to find his way through high school.  I wanted to remind him of what I see when I looked at him.  My journaling runs along the entire edge of the layout and it talks about how his outer appearance didn't match what was inside.  He walked around with this crazy spiked mohawk and black clothes yet there was always a smile on his face.  With all his faults, he is still one of the sweets people I know.  He is always willing to help others and is always very respectful.

He was trying very hard to look mad because his big bro stuck a straw on his spike!
