Holiday Greetings!

Hello my sweet bloggie friends and creative soul sisters!  I hope you all are enjoying a fantastic holiday weekend.  It's been a little while since I've blogged so I thought I should fill you in on the happenings of my little slice of the world.  I have been an extremely busy lil bee :D  Over the last couple of weeks, I've busy getting ready for the launch of new Little Honey Bee products lines for a local boutique.  I also participated in my first cultural arts gallery show at the Centro Cultural Aztlan here in San Antonio.

This was my set up for Zonarte in the Centro Cultural Aztlan Art Gallery.   It was a wonderful experience and I was able to connect with even more of my local artist community.

As soon as I torn down at Zonarte, it was time to set up at Gracie Gene's Boutique.

This sweet little boutique held it's grand opening yesterday and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.  Gracie Gene's Boutique is located in the beautiful Braken Village area which is known for it's fabulous boutiques.

I'm honored to be one of their featured designers!  My new line of notebooks, bangles, greeting and note cards along with artist prints and original canvas works of art are available for purchase here.

The cards are exclusive to Gracie Gene's Boutique but if you're interested in them, you can always PM me on Facebook.  I've been working on new canvases, compact mirrors that feature my artwork and more bangles so stayed tuned!!  Thanks for joining me today, enjoy the rest of your weekend and remember it's SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY so shop small and support your local and online small business community!  Here are links to some of my small business friends, so go show them some love and tell them I sent you :D

Psalms 91:4 - Mixed Media Canvas

Happy Friday Everyone!!  Today I have a new canvas to share with you.  I finished this last night and I'm very happy with the way it turned out.  I love the Psalms verse I used, it goes beautifully with my little scene.

This is a 9x12 canvas.  The background is a mixture of warm golds and muted greens.

For texture, I used molding paste and a stencil then continued to add layers of paint.

I added the cross and used 3-D Enamels paint to add swirls.

At this point, I really felt like the painting needed more and I wanted some contrast so I added this cardinal perched on a tree.

I knew when I started this piece that I was gonna feature a bible verse but I didn't have one in mind.  I never plan my paintings because I like for them to evolve as I work.  This free process is what I enjoy most about creating.  So once I feel like I'm done, I begin searching for the right words.  Sometimes their my own, sometimes I use a quote or a bible verse like this.  So as I was searching, I prayed.  I asked God to help me find the right words, to help me share his word and I found Psalms 91:4.

He will cover you with his feathers
He will shelter you with his wings
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

The verse is perfect for my painting and I love it!!  Thank you so much for joining me today.  I hope you've enjoyed my post and that you have a wonderful weekend.

New Frida Bangles!!

Hi Everyone!!  I've been busy working on a new product line for my Etsy shop and for a new boutique that I'll be joining starting Black Friday.  I just finished these up and I'm excited to share my NEW Frida Bangles:

These are nice and chunky!!  Each bracelet is 1.5" and the design changes around the bracelet.  This is my test batch so if all goes well, then I'll do more.

The image is decoupaged on a wooden bangle and the inside and edges are painted with acrylic paint.

I'm going to add these to my Etsy shop for a limited time so you'll be able to see each one closer there.  I hope you like them!!  Let me know you thoughts!!

Bloom Where You're Planted - Art Journal

I'm back with more art journaling!!  I'm working on coloring in all those sketches I did awhile back and this is actually the first one of the batch.  I sketched her, doodled all the background and the flowers during one of the shows I did last month.  The show was a bit slow in the morning but picked up in the afternoon.  Anyway, I did this very loosely not worrying about it being perfect at all.

These pages were already stained with inks when I started drawing on them.  In fact most of the pages in my art journal already have stamps, inks, molding paste and paint already on them when I start.

This is the original sketch that I shared on Facebook.  Do you follow my FB page?  I share a lot of work in progress and daily happenings there.  Here is the link in case you'd like to check it out: FB Page.  It's also the best way to ask me questions.

This is a progress pic I shared on FB when I started working on it last night.

I used Golden and Liquitex acrylics to paint her in.  She looks Eastern European to me.  What do you think?

I think this side of the spread is my fav.  I actually struggled with it so it has many, many layers of paint and molding paste.  In the end, it all works so well together to create a cheerful scene.

It's kinda funny because the left side is so bright and cheerful but she looks kinda serious to me.  Very interesting.......I'm sure there is some good psychoanalysis that can me done here, lol.

Well that's it for today!!  I have a couple more unfinished sketches in my art journal so I'll try to get them finished up so I can share.  Thanks so much for stopping by and spending a little piece of your day with me.

Live the Life YOU Want to Live - art journal

Hello, hello my sweet bloggie friends!  I'm excited to be back sharing my own original works of art, you know the kind you make just for yourself.  It seems like an eternity since I'd art journaled so it was high time that I finish one of my sketches and I knew exactly which one I wanted to complete.

Now you're gonna have to wait til the end of my post to see the page ;D  First I want to take you on my creative journey that brought this beauty to life.

I went through a period about a month ago where I tried to sketch in my art journal everyday.  During that time, I found the courage to finally draw one of my ladies in the DOD style.  This is something that I've wanted to do ever since I began painting women on my paper mache hearts but I was scared to give it a try.  You see, I worried that it wouldn't come out good, that my drawing skills were not strong enough but then I thought, this is exactly what my art journal is for right.  So I started and I have to say, I really love the way she turned out but she stayed unfinished in my art journal for weeks.

Then on Sunday, I decided it was time!!  I began adding the beautiful vibrant colors that I love so much.

Before I knew it, this stunning beauty sprang to life!

Colorful papel picado (cut paper) flows in the breeze as she commands your attention.

Her message is bold:  She lived her life without apologies, staying true to herself every step of the way.....

What does that mean?  Well that's up to you.....

Lol, thank you so much for joining me today!  I hope you've enjoyed my Day of the Dead Beauty and love her as much as I do!!  Have a beautiful day, HUGZ to you all!!

****UPDATE - Artist Prints of this stunner are now available on ETSY****

I'm so thankful for all of the wonderful blessings that God has given me, from my family to this amazing creative journey I started a year and a half ago and of course all of you.  So for today's project, I created a 10x10 mixed media canvas to add to my home's fall decor.

I knew that I wanted to use rich colors and texture so I started by using the molding paste debossing technique that I shared in this video: Technique Tuesday.  I stamped the molding paste with the following stamps: Writing Cling Stamp, Text Cling Stamps and Fancy Leaf.

I painted the canvas with Golden fluid acrylic paints in raw sienna and burnt umber.  The debossing technique gives the paint areas to puddle creating gorgeous texture and depth.

The final layer of my background is a piece of muslin fabric.  Muslin is a really great fabric for stamping because it has a tight grain so you're able to get a clean impression.  I stamped my fabric with the fancy leaf in the Mini Thanks Cling Stamp set and then colored them in with Distress Markers and Dylusions inks.

Next I moved onto creating this beautiful flower.

I cut the flower using the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Die and cut two sets.  I stamped the individual flowers with the Music cling stamp.

Then I flipped them over and sprayed them with Dylusions and Lindy's Spray Ink.

With the flower assembled, I dug into my clip art and found these two beautiful images.  The pumpkin is from the Sept NC kit and can be found of the Fall Clip Art sheet.  The beautiful vintage women is from the June NC kit and is on the Summer clip art sheet.  I stamped "very thankful" on a strip of muslin.

I used a scrap piece of iron for the base of the flower, inking it with red paint to tie into the flowers in my vintage lady's hair.

I dusted the edges with more red paint to create visual balance and highlight all the beautiful debossed texture.

To finish off the right edge, I added a strip of crotchet ribbon.

The little finishing touches I added include: ribbon leaves, small inked roses, a small heart and metal leaf bobby pin.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you've enjoyed my post.   If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me or PM me on Facebook.  Okay, now it's time to head on over to Carrie's Blog!!
